The Norwegian Defence Logistics Organization/Surplus Materiel Management Program, (NDLO/SMMP), has for auction sale KNM Horten. The vessel was released pr. 16 November 2009 for commercial sale and can be sold to the civilian market. The vessel was built as a Navy Supply vessel for Sub Marines and MTB Missils Torpedo Boats, in 1978. Since 2003 she has been used as training ship in Spain / Norway for the new Frigates.
This vessel was built after DNV rules applicable for ice class C type vessels. She has been used as a School ship for the Norwegian Navy for many years, and has also been used for The Norwegian Royal Family when KS Norge was undergoing repairs after a fire. She has also been used as a reserve frigate and following boat for The Norwegian Royal Family.
In late 2003 was it made significant up gradation and rebuilding of the vessel with the new stability calculations and conversions for the class notation DNV +1 A1 LC Patrol R2 E0 (NOR) for International trading.
The vessel is in very good condition and has been very well maintained. The vessel has been in November and Desember 2009 overhauled on the Navys drydock in Haakonsvern, Bergen, Norway. The vessel's bottom plate thickness is measured, all bottom valves are overhauled. Propellers and propellershaft are controlled. All engines and generators set has been tested and maintanced. Liferafts, security equipment and fire systems has been upgraded and certified . Stabilisator on the port side are under repair from Sperry Martin UK. New ground treatment (new anti fouling) and new zinc anodes are fitted. The vessel has also been inspected by The Norwegian Veritas. (DNV) There is a possibility for the new owner to be trained before the official take over.
The vessel has been moved to Horten and will be finished on the Horten shipyard arond the 11 - 15 of February 2010 and test trip will be arranged in Horten. There are possbility for potential buyers to inspect the vessel and be with on the sea trail. For information will a external Marine Surveyor make ready a complete inspection report of the vessel! The report will be finished around 8 of February 2010.

Further included a Draeger decompression chamber for the evacuation of the submarine crew. This has been dismantled in 2003 and is stored on Helicopter deck. It also included an item MOB boat "Sjøbjørn" 25 feet from 1999s with 320 hp waterjet who has been on maintance in November 2009. New spare parts for around 1.5 millions Euro (1978 price ), are following the vessel! These incuding also new propeller shaft, 2 new MWM engines for generator set.
KNM Horten is built as a conventional steel vessel. 01-deck and lower structure is in steel, while all the structure above the 01-deck is in seawater-resistant aluminum. The hull is built with transverse principal of rigid projection in the form of frames, ribs, beams and bulkheads. Casualty deck is 2-deck of the vessel's length. The vessel has 3 decks above and below 1 deck (main deck c). Between Deck height is generally 2.4 m (2.6 m in the torpedo workshop).
The KNM Horten is ice strengthened same old Ice Class "ICE-C" in DNV Rfs rules of the deposit and increased plate thickness in the bow. Hull strength was originally approved by DNV in accordance with the above-mentioned class notation, during construction of the vessel. The regulations have been changed since 1978 and KNM Horten not meet the new rules. Hull strength is obviously still intact. Brackets for the rudder and propeller is integrated into the hull. There are 6 watertight main departments above the engine room and 3 behind. The watertight compartments are attached spt.nr. 8, 24, 39, 54, 72, 83, 102, 111 (new 1999) and 120. The vessel has a double bottom in the area spt.nr. 24-102.
